Week of the Young Child 2020

By: Gillian Bovard, Event Operations Manager | 04/12/2020

Each April we look forward to watching the Garden come to life and welcoming hundreds of families to the Garden in celebration of our youngest Idahoans. Our partnerships with organizations like the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children and our connection to our community is more important now than ever. And while we have made the decision to postpone the Young Child Celebration Event to the Fall, we welcome you to join us for a virtual celebration of the Week of the Young Child.

The Young Child Celebration is a free event that focuses on connecting families with quality community resources, such as summer camps, after-school programs, early literacy information, healthy eating tips and child care. The virtual event will follow the national Week of the Young Child, April 13 to 17, which spotlights young children, early learning, teachers, families and communities. Throughout the week we will highlight the many ways young children learn as they enjoy music, explore food, work together, create art, and celebrate their families.

We understand the circumstances are different for every family during the COVID-19 crisis, we have focused on providing a variety of activities you can utilize each day during this week and after. You can look forward to new activities being posted on the IDAEYC and IBG Facebook Pages each day at 10 am:

Stay connected while maintaining distance…we challenge you to write a letter thanking an essential worker for doing what they can to keep us safe during the COVID-19 crisis. Use one of our templates to thank a gardener or tell your teacher you miss them! Maybe consider drafting your own letter to a nurse or even Mayor Mclean!

Idaho STEM Action Center’s COVID-19 response, #IdahoMakersUnite, is a call to action for people across Idaho with basic to advanced skills in sewing to help supply healthcare workers, elderly citizens, immunocompromised individuals, first responders, and others in their communities with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  The greatest need is for cut-and-sew masks made of basic fabric or with filter materials and elastic.  Whether by hand or with modern digital machine, it’s the science, technology, engineering, and math Idaho communities need today.
