Idaho celebrates Week of the Young Child

By: Brandi Nyhof, Idaho AEYC outreach coordinator | 03/21/2019

The Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children (Idaho AEYC) is partnering with the Idaho Botanical Garden to host a family-friendly outdoor celebration that recognizes our youngest Idahoans and everyone who makes a difference in children’s lives.

The Week of the Young Child Celebration is Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Old Penitentiary Road in Boise.

The free event focuses on connecting families with quality community resources, such as summer camps, after-school programs, early literacy information, healthy eating tips and child care. Each vendor booth offers an activity for young children, such as an art project or a new skill to learn. There will be performances from Treasure Valley dance companies along with live music from local band Blank Check and students from Boise Rock School. This is also a great opportunity to explore the entire Idaho Botanical Garden.

The Boise event follows the national Week of the Young Child, April 8 to 12, which spotlights young children, early learning, teachers, families and communities. Throughout the week, Idaho AEYC will highlight the many ways young children learn as they enjoy music, explore food and cooking, build together, create art, and celebrate their families.

“All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life,” said Idaho AEYC Executive Director Beth Oppenheimer. “The Week of the Young Child is a time for Idaho to recognize the importance of the early years and the vital role of parents, caregivers, child care professionals and preschool teachers. Together, we can ensure that all children have opportunities to thrive.”
