Winter Garden aGlow

You may have seen the Garden in bloom in summer, but have you seen it glow in the winter? Join us for our 20th Anniversary Winter Garden aGlow at the Idaho Botanical Garden and see our dazzling display of over 300,000 sparkling lights artfully displayed throughout the holiday season.

Special guests Santa and his reindeer Prancer will visit from the North Pole select nights and the Holiday Express, a G-scale model train, will wind its way through the glowing winter wonderland. Local choirs will fill the air with music on select nights. Visit the Garden Store for special ‘holiday specs’ to turn the twinkling lights into holiday symbols and characters!

We are open on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Open rain, shine, or snow.

Advance Tickets:
Purchase your tickets in advance by visiting the Garden office Monday-Friday from 9-5 p.m. or online by pushing the button below. Tickets purchased online are date specific but can be used another night if needed.

Online purchases come in the form of e-tickets (delivered in a separate e-mail) which can be taken straight to the gate the night of.

Holiday Garden Gift Store: Open nightly November 24-January 1 from 6 – 9 p.m. Top off your evening and warm up with a visit to The Garden Store located in the Garden cottage during Winter Garden aGlow! You’ll find everything you need from holiday decor to one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list. Take home a souvenir like the ‘holiday specs’ or a locally made treasure! Your purchases help keep the Garden blooming all summer and glowing all winter.

Santa Station:
Santa will be at the Garden weekends Friday-Mondays in December, Prancer will join him unless she is busy running Mrs. Claus’ errands! Professional photos are also for sale. Visits are free with Winter Garden aGlow admission.

Holiday Express: A holiday favorite, this authentic model G-scale replicas of steam and diesel engines run on special nights through December in the English Garden. Special thank you to the Southern Idaho Garden Railway Society for their time and displaying their beautiful train for another year!

Holiday Carolers: Enjoy live holiday music from local chorus and choir groups on select nights.

What to Expect: Weather and Parking


This event is a walking holiday experience open during rain, snow and shine. Please be prepared to walk in winter weather. Wheelchairs are available to borrow on a first come, first served basis.

Parking is found outside the Garden gate. It is free, but limited. Parking staff will direct you to the available spots. Carpooling is encouraged. This is a walking holiday experience. Please be prepared to walk in winter weather.

ADA Parking is available outside the Garden gate, closest to the front entrance.

Holiday Party Rentals

Create your own magical holiday party within the Winter Garden aGlow’s sparkling lights and festive environment. Use either our heated, decorated Tent or the Greenhouse as an exclusive place to warm up and enjoy your own refreshments, or hire a professional caterer. With rental of a tent or the greenhouse, your guests also enjoy all the Winter Garden aGlow amenities.  Rental prices include admission to the Winter Garden aGlow for up to 100 guests with the tent rental and up to 50 guests with the Greenhouse rental.  You may purchase additional admission tickets at our Administrative Office in advance to accommodate larger gatherings. Join us! The Idaho Botanical Garden is recruiting volunteers to help us create the special magic of Winter Garden aGlow as volunteers are the main ingredient! Sign up now and get into the holiday spirit.

The Garden lights up the night beginning Thanksgiving Day Nov. 24 through Jan. 1, 2017 including all holidays. We schedule 15 volunteers on quiet nights and up to 30 or more volunteers on the busy weekends and the days preceding Christmas.

Volunteers are needed all days for all shifts!

Volunteer shifts: 5:00pm to 9:30pm

Volunteer duties:

Greeters: greeting and directing guests as garden ambassadors

Admissions:  act as cashier assisting staff taking admissions, greeting and directing guests to closest payment window

Ticket takers: tearing and checking tickets at Garden Gate Entrance

Refreshments:  preparing hot cocoa and cider, arranging cookies on trays, serving hot cocoa and cider in the Folly

Store Volunteer:  assisting staff selling holiday merchandise in the garden cottage store (IBG staff)

Membership Ambassador: promote Garden membership, programs, and events at a table in the Folly

Garden Monitor: stoking and tending the fire barrels, monitoring Garden paths (maybe IBG staff)

General Support and Reliever:  transporting cocoa and cider to folly,  serving the volunteers refreshments, assist where needed (lots of walking and moving about)

Santa’s Elves (weekends): hand out candy canes and monitor Santa lines

Holiday Express Train Conductor: assist with greeting visitors and crowd control
