Memorials and Tributes

The nonprofit Idaho Botanical Garden is supported entirely by private individuals, corporations and foundations that share the vision of providing a “full garden experience for all ages that enhances community quality of life through plant collections, education programs, and entertainment, cultural and community events.”

The Garden is a beautiful setting for honoring special people and special moments in our lives.

Whether you would like to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or a lifetime of achievement, Idaho Botanical Garden's Memorial and Tribute Program is a heartfelt way to show your appreciation. There are several ways to participate, including giving a gift of general support, dedicating a rose or tree, or placing a plaque on a bench to honor a loved one.

All gifts to the Memorial and Tribute Program are acknowledged with cards of appreciation to the honored individual, their family, or designated contact. Your gift will also be recognized in the newsletter, Garden Thymes and the Annual Report.

1. Gift of General Support
Making a contribution in the name of your special friend or purpose is a simple way to show you care and in turn support an organization that benefits so many in the community. Donations support the continued operation of the Garden's horticulture and education programs. Tribute and memorial gifts of any amount are welcome.

2. Rose, Shrub or Tree Dedication
This easy to implement process allows the donor to make a contribution in one of the following categories and the IBG staff fulfills the tribute or memorial request. IBG horticulture staff will select the plant and location for this memorial based on donor guidance and the Garden needs. The donor will receive a card indicating location and type of plant their gift provided. A rose, shrub or tree is dedicated for its natural life. If the plant dies within 18 months of planting, it will be replaced at no additional cost. This gift level does not allow for name recognition at the location.

  • A rose bush or shrub may be dedicated in honor or memory of the loved one with a contribution of $100. The donor may offer suggestions for preferred varieties or locations at the time the gift is made.

  • A tree may be dedicated in honor or memory of the loved one with a contribution of $2,500. The donor may offer suggestions for preferred types or locations at the time the gift is made.

  • 3. Memorial Bench Dedication
  • A Wooden Garden Bench (typically cedar or teak) may be dedicated in honor of a loved one for a period of ten (10) years with a contribution of $2,500. Each bench includes a small plaque that may be engraved with up to 20 words reflecting the tribute. You, other family members, or friends have the option of extending the dedication beyond ten (10) years at a cost of $500.00 per additional year. Donors are welcome to suggest a preferred location for the bench, final bench style and location is chosen by the Garden Design Review Committee. If the donor chooses not to rededicate the bench, the bench's plaque will be entered into the Garden's historical memorial plaque collection and the bench will be available for another dedication

  • A Stone Bench may also be dedicated in the name of an individual. Benches are available in 4’ length for $2,500, 5’ length for $3,500, or 6’ length for $4,500. Stone benches are typically made of locally quarried sandstone and are engraved with “in honor/ tribute/ memory of” as appropriate and the name of the honoree. The duration of a stone bench memorial is for the life of the bench, typically 20 years. Donors are welcome to suggest a preferred location for the bench, final bench style and location is chosen by the Garden Design Review Committee.

  • The Garden reserves the right to move or relocate benches in the future if and when gardens are renovated or redesigned.

    Custom Memorials and Tributes
Garden staff would be glad to define a custom memorial or tribute for gifts beyond those outlined in this program, when the amount of the gift is $5,000 or more.

    Legacy Giving
Some individuals are interested in paying tribute to an individual through a perpetual gift, such as endowing an educational program or feature garden. The Idaho Botanical Garden welcomes the opportunity to work with you and your personal advisors to determine if such a legacy gift is of interest, and to determine what planned giving arrangement is appropriate for you. Recognizing the highly private nature of such planning, the Garden will hold all inquiries and communications in strictest confidence, and without obligation.
