Botany Camp

Botany Camp is a morning science program designed for children ages 4-9 to participate in games, crafts and nature walks at the Idaho Botanical Garden.

Each class meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM – noon. The campers are divided into two classes by age. Each class is limited to 20 children and is supervised by an adult teacher and two aides.

2014 Botany Camps

July 14-18 Classes: Ages 5 & 6, 7-9
Gain a raccoon-eye’s perspective as we search for animals and plants that live below our knees. Who knows what we can find as we look for mushrooms, water creatures, millipedes, slugs, ants, squirrel foot prints and other cool things that tall people often miss.

July 21-25 Classes: Ages 5 & 6, 7-9
Investigate how seeds turn into your dinner salad. Take apart a seed to see the baby plant inside, plant quick-growing vegetables to take home, collect insects that like to eat plants too, harvest garden plants to make a delicious salad.

July 28 – August 1 Classes: Ages 4, 5 & 6
Learn about the cunning characteristics of Idaho plants and animals that help them survive. What is that orange stuff that comes out of ladybug knees? Why do frogs close their eyes when they eat? Why do grasshoppers sometimes throw up when you catch them? Learn the answers to these and other questions.

August 4-8 Classes: Ages 5 & 6, 7-9
Search for the Garden’s winged wonders and discover what they use for food and where they live. Use nets to capture insects, hold a wild bird’s nest, and learn how to get them to visit your house.

August 11-15 Classes: Ages 4, 5 & 6
Use your senses, imagination and creativity to explore the Garden from top to bottom. Activities include rolling down a grassy hill, digging potatoes, and going up into the Garden’s tree house to watch birds fly close by.
